HOMECOMING

HOMECOMING

After so many years away, it almost hurts
Seeing the old place again, albeit changed
A few remaining half-remembered friends
Upon whom my future years still depends
Some of that chemistry is now rearranged
Yet soon to original relationships it reverts

Faces, a little aged of course, I still recall
Children that I’ve never seen, acting coy
To them, I’m a stranger finally returned
I wonder if forgiveness could be earned
Some expressions of surprise, others joy
It’s the smiles that please me most of all

It’s just me, back again this time to stay
I bring no gifts from far off exotic lands
Nor even any wisdom not echoed here
Balanced lives move on it would appear
The desire for travel no-one understands
Yet it is bonds of loyalty one must obey

Hello, Twizzle,
You are very dedicated to this mirror-image rhyme pattern! The rhymes do not seem forced and the rhythm flows very well. Very nice!
It's hard to go back to a place we once called home. Your poem delivers the apprehension of returning, along with the hope and anticipation of acceptance.
Thank you!
